Do you know what being a steward of the land means?
Land stewardship represents a land trust's dedication to protecting the land forever. Permanent conservation involves not just the preservation of the land, but also its ongoing care. Pictured here, our monitoring team is installing a post for one of our easement signs. These signs are strategically placed around the borders of all the easements we oversee, indicating the type of easement in place ~ such as Conservation, Riparian, or Agriculture, including our contact information. Stewardship activities, such as this, encompass annual property monitoring and various duties outlined in the Land Trust Standards and Practices.
Caring for the land can incur significant expenses. To assist with these costs, we have established a Stewardship Fund. A contribution of just $50 can cover the expense for two signs and posts placed on easements that Owl Creek Conservancy is working to protect.
