This November, every Tuesday, we’ll be showcasing a Grantor and their story of why they chose to partner with Owl Creek Conservancy to protect their land.

Here’s the 3rd installment of our ‘Giving Tuesday Grantor Series’ with Rick Ashcraft showcasing his easement, known as Ashcraft.

Rick Ashcraft, a first-generation farmer bought his first farm on Bryant Road in 1990.  He frequently travels along SR 42, and feels a deep sense of loss watching farm after farm becoming lost to development. When the idea of placing an easement on his property crossed his mind, he was met with various opinions cautioning against it, suggesting he might come to regret such a decision. Concerns were raised about Owl Creek Conservancy imposing strict regulations that would limit his use of the land. However, conversations with fellow Grantor Alan Cassell, who also holds an easement with Owl Creek Conservancy, helped lay these fears to rest. Rick learned what it truly means to have an easement on his farmland and the associated guidelines. Even today, he finds himself addressing curious inquiries about his land, confidently responding, “Working with OCC has been a great decision for us.”
